Group Policy Control

Still working hard on V2. This time I will blog about controlling Royal TS settings using Group Policies:

An ADMX file will be supplied with some predefined policies to set. So far all policies can be set on computer level and on user level. Policies configured on computer level are stronger than on the user level.
Here’s an example how to configure data base logging using group policy objects:

Royal TS will pick up the policy change and will apply them immediately:

Notice the label at the bottom indicating some settings cannot be changed because they are applied using group policies.
Here are some more settings we plan to integrate:

As always, if you have any feedback, let us know…

Re: Group Policy Control
Stefan, many thanks keeping us up2date. Now I understand why the development takes long time. You really implementing nice features.
I have 2 questions. The DB is only for Logging actions or? Are the connections still stored in a file or is it possible to choose? My second questions would be the pricing. Have you already a price model like full version or update license from 1.6 to 2.x? How much will it cost?
Hope it is not to early for questions like that

Re: Group Policy Control
Hi Christian,
it will also be possible to store connections in the DB, not only the logging. Pricing will be pretty much the same, don't expect too much change here. Updates are still to be defined...
cheers, Stefan

Re: Group Policy Control
OMG STEFAN!!!! I think I just made a mess of myself....did you just say we will have the option to store connections in a DB!!!! I am speaking seriously here....I think I just found a reason to push our Director of IT to purchase for the entire support team as the BIGGEST issue we have in our use of RoyalTS is this...
The majority of our work is done supporting K-12 customers around the globe...and many of them (if not all of them) have TS setup on several servers at their school/district locations. Since multiple folks in support would need to get on these machines and typically there is a single login to those machines that our company uses, the use of a DB would allow us to have everyone point to one of our big SQL servers for the "main connection definitions" will GREATLY improve reliability of accurate connection information.
Then with your added functionality of being able to open a second definition file will allow for folks like myself who also manage internal servers to be able to open a file with connection info specific to us while at the same time having the connection info for customers open.
AMAZING JOB STEFAN (if I am reading this right). Excuse me while I get a drool towel...

Re: Group Policy Control
You got that right. In fact, I'm sure that all users will be very happy with the file format and synchronization improvements. Especially credential mapping will be very powerful allowing you to use the same connection in a file with your defined credentials. I'm just not yet ready to talk in detail about all those wonderful features. It will still take a while until we can show off some of this stuff... stay tuned!
