I created a few tasks that call a script to dialup before connecting a RDP session, and a script that would hangup after I log off. All workd fine, but it is now the second time all the tasks are disappeared and only the default tasks are visible. (Installed hotfixes, IIsreset, ping etc...)

Is there a file I can bacup with all the tasks in it, so if it happens again I can restore that part?

Hi,

the tasks are stored in the file called code4ward.RoyalTS.TaskSettingsData.xml in the user's profile directory (in Win7 it's usually C:\Users\[your user name here]\Application Data\code4ward). If you use the latest version of Royal TS you can open the config directory using the Activity Log window (via the View menu). You should find a button called "Config Folder" in the toolbar of the Activity Log window. Click it to open the folder.

Anyway, it would be interesting why this file get's deleted or reset on your machine. I use lots of tasks and it never happened to me. If you find any pattern or condition, causing this to happen on your machine, please let me know.

cheers,

Stefan

Hi Stefan,

Thank you for the quick reply. I just opend the program and the Activity log, and see this message: No global tasks found. Creating default tasks...

What I forgot to say was that I deleted all the default tasks in the begin, and then made my own tasks with scripts. Could it be that the program checks if the default tasks exists, and if not it will overwrite the new ones?

For now I'll let the default tasks stay, and make new tasks again. Hopefully they will stay now.

Cheers,

Dennis

 Dennis,

I just checked with the code and creating the default tasks will only happen if Royal TS cannot find any task. So deleting the default tasks shouldn't be a problem when at least one task is defined. I rather think that there was an error while Royal TS wanted to load your tasks. Are there any errors in the log before you see the entry where Royal TS creates the default tasks?

cheers,
Stefan

Hello Stefan,

It is a while ago, but today the task list is empty again, and only the default tasks are shown.

This error is in the log:

Message:

System.ArgumentException: Source Royal TS Application already exists on the local computer.
at System.Diagnostics.EventLog.CreateEventSource(EventSourceCreationData sourceData)

Hi,

the log entry you posted is OK and has nothing to do with the tasks. Any other entries indicating that there was a problem reading the tasks xml file?

cheers,
Stefan
