Hello,

I have been using Royal TS for a year now and never had this problem until I upgraded to v1.6.8.  It seems that when I launch my connection to a server and click the login screen and then on the user name field I start typing my id and nothing appears on the screen. it seems that I get no keyboard feedback.  The mouse works but not anything from the keyboard.   I try another server and it works fine then I go back to the other server and still have same issue.  The workaround for me is the use mstsc.exe /console and then I can get logged in but it does not seem to work using Royal TS.  Now if I reboot my PC and try to launch the same server that I did not work before it will then work?  This is very confusing can someone fix it?

Thanks.

Very confusing indeed!

I got several reports about keyboard focus issues and I still haven't located the bug. Can you give me some more information? Like, is there a pattern? Is it only the on connections in external window or embedded sessions as well, etc.

I use only "external" windows but for your test I switched one of the servers that was not working to "embedded" window instead and it worked!  I then switched it back to "external" and it failed to take my keystrokes.   This is a very strange fix that I don't like.  I prefer to have all my windows setup as "external".

Hope this helps.

It wasn't meant as a fix. It's just helping me to identify the problem. Can you also try the following: when an external window doesn't have the keyboard focus, click on the Grab Focus icon (little keyboard) in the toolbar where the connection is selected in the main window. Does this transfer the focus to your remote session?

That worked in every case where I could not connect before with "external' window set.

I installed that Beta but it blew up.  It said "Royal TS has encountered a problem and needs to close...." message.  I tried to email you back but it came back undeliverable.

I know how to reproduce this issue. I've seen the same problem ever since i started using RoyalTS when it was still a free program.

1. Start connecting to Server1 (doubleclick on the server in the Navigate tree)
2. While Server1 is still connecting, start connecting to Server2
3. Leave focus on Server2 window. When Server1 finished connecting in the background, it will steal the keyboard focus from Server2. You wont be able to type in Server2.

It doesnt happen always, because i think this is some kind of race condition between threads.
Really annoying... I have to switch back to Server1 window and then back to Server2 window to get my keyboard focus back.

 Thanks for your input, saver.

Version 2 of Royal TS will have a setting "Grap Focus on Connect" which allows you to control the behavior.

cheers,
Stefan

I will try to get a new 1.6.9 beta build out this weekend which hopefully addresses the issue. Anyone willing to try that when I released it?

I'll be happy to help out and give it a go.  Best way to contact me is via email, although I should get notified of forum posts also.

I look forward to your up coming releases and helping out with beta (even alpha if you need) testing.

Marc

I have installed 1.6.9 and hoped, since the thread died, that this problem was fixed but the bug is still alive and kicking.

I use the same methode as Saver.

If I need to test something then let me know.

Hi Vincent,

unfortunately there's not much I can do here. The AxControl from Server1 will grab the focus as soon as the connection is established. If you are about to connect to another server in the meantime, you are out of luck here. It's the behavior of the AxControl which I cannot influence. Once you are in this situation, there are two ways to get the focus back to the right track but it needs user interaction:
1. Click on the keyboard icon (or the Actions -> Grab Keyboard Input menu item) to move the input focus to the currently selected connection.
2. Click again on the currently selected connection on the tree. This will also restore the input focus to the currently selected connection.

Here's another suggestion to maybe workaround your problem: If you now that you have to connect multiple sessions at the same time, select the folder or document, select multiple connections in the list and hit connect from there. It will connect all the servers and after you give them a while to connect just use the tree to switch between them.

cheers,
Stefan

It's mostly annoying during logons. This annoyance will be solved in V2 because of the password repository and encrypted RTS files. So it's no biggy.

Thanks for the quick response though :)

Laters,
Vincent

Does that mean, that you are currently typing all usernames and passwords?

You are aware that Royal TS can store credentials in a safe, encrypted way already and that bulk-password changes are very easy using the bulk-add feature?

It's a security policy. No passwords are stored in documents. There are exceptions like password managers but they need to be password protected and such.

You can also password-protect your .rts file - like any other password manager as well. Just click on the document icon and click on Edit -> Properties. There you can change your protection level and password protect your document.

cheers,

Stefan
